Copper Chimney (KOREGAON PARK)

ADDRESS: Near Post 91, Lane 7, Off North Main Road, Koregaon Park, Pune

Copper chimney - a popular name in Aamchi Mumbai.
When a group of friends decided to throw a birthday treat there, I got a little excited at the prospect. Was itching to sample the famous chain in a city different from its origin. We all landed up for the weekday lunch buffet.
The place is easily located and shares vicinity with the likes of post91, Jimmy hu and a lot others. The interiors are fine. Nothing exceptional except the copper lamps hanging on the roof.
Now, the food.

Starters : 2 veg and 2 non veg.
Frankly, I was disappointed. The buffets are mostly about the starters and desserts and the number itself put me off. However, we continued.
Fish lasooni - the pieces were tender and juicy, grilled to perfection. Tasted good.

Chicken seekh kabab - a good attempt. It was a tad bit cold though.

Aloo pudina - the pudina flavour was good. however, it hadn't penetrated some of the aloo pieces fully.

Pita with veg filling - No salt. That's all.

Soup - a yellow and thinner version of veg sweet corn soup. No nonveg soup available.

Salads- A table full of options here. Pretty good fish tikka salad, hummus salad, pasta, sprout mix salad and a live chat counter. Dahi puri was delicious and so was the papdi chat (served in cute dried leaves-cup)

Main course : four veg and four non veg.

Aloo jeera - standard dish. Well executed. Tasted well with the nan they served.

Paneer mushroom in tomato gravy- the dish was delicious. The gravy was exact in its hotness and taste. One of the better dishes of the day.

Tawa masala - mix veg. Okayish.

Palak with aloo matar - the dish seemed like an experiment. A little low on salt.

Chole - a good dish, though not well matched in the menu.

Fish goan curry - the dish was excellent but no one could pass it off for goan curry. No flavor of coconut milk, the thick gravy absent. The fish was extremely tender, well prepared and lovely on the palate. Just a name change required.

Chicken palak - lovely consistency of the gravy with tender juicy chicken pieces. Best dish of the day.

Kheema matar - it was a well prepared dish with exact tang and hotness to balance each other. Combined well with the naan.

Chicken biryani - good enough but not the best in town.

Dal tadka and Dal dhaba - two varieties with beautiful touch of garlic in both of them but the flavors were entirely different in both. Good.

Steam rice too was kept. Nan, butter roti etc were served on the table.

Desserts: 6 desserts.

Gulab jamun with ice cream - the gulab jamuns were very soft and filled inside with gulkand. Complemented by the vanilla ice cream served as a separate dish.

Kiwi pastry - Average. Same for strawberry pastry as well.

Rabri - too thin in consistency. But the taste was nice. A nice touch of saffron without overdoing it.

Fresh fruits with chocolate sauce - nothing great or attributable to the chef here. The chocolate sauce was thin.

The service was fine, though a few of us felt it was a little slow. They were nice enough to tolerate 28 girls giggling and shouting around and helped in our photography sessions too.

Visit once if you're nearby. Doesn't come near the Mumbai one at all!
