Cast: Joaquin Phoenix, Amy Adams, Rooney Mara, Scarlett Johansson (voice) Direction: Spike Jonze Genre: Romance Duration: 1 hour 40 minutes Story :  Sometime in the future, a lonely writer falls in love with his operating system. Can this bizarre relationship work? Review : Theodore Twombly (Joaquin Phoenix) writes love letters for others through a website called beautifulhandwrittenletters.com. Ironically, his personal life is anything but beautiful. On the verge of getting a divorce, sad and perpetually self-analysing, Theodore shuts himself away in his house to avoid contact with the outside world. The only social activity he indulges in is commuting to work every day and occasionally interacting with neighbour Amy (Amy Adams). Theodore is not cynical though. He just doesn't know what he wants from life, people and relationships anymore. The writer's life takes an unexpected turn when he begins to find solace in the voice of his new computer operating system Samantha (Scarle

Review: Cobalt Blue by Sachin Kundalkar

Title: Cobalt Blue Author: Sachin Kundalkar Translator: Jerry Pinto Publisher: Hamish Hamilton Genre: Literary Fiction, Translation Rating: 5/5 There are books that you read sometimes and do not know what to make of them. There are stories that are close to you and they emerge through the pages and the writer has just touched a nerve. You know it. Perhaps you do not even acknowledge it, but you do realize that the book has made an impact and there is nothing you can do about it. You let yourself go. You become one with the prose and then you just feel something so deep that you want to share the experience with the world. My review of “Cobalt Blue” is an experience of reading, which I want to share. I never thought once before picking this book a long time ago. This time around it was a reread – a third time reread at that and I knew it would wrench the life out of me and it did and I loved every bit of it. There is no other way to read this book. It will overpower you at some point if

Jai Ho... Must watch Movie.

Image
Cast: Salman Khan, Daisy Shah, Tabu, Sana Khan, Tabu, Danny Denzongpa, Nadira Babbar Direction: Sohail Khan Genre: Action Duration: 2 hours 25 minutes Story:   A  braveheart commoner stands up against injustice and spreads a life-changing mantra of the circle of goodness, giving and generosity. There is nothing ordinary about this  aam aadmi . He rips, roars and ravages the  raavans with a single blow - like a Stallone on steroids. Jai (Salman) is an ex-Army officer, who runs a garage part-time and plays incredibly good (looking) Samaritan fulltime, beating up baddies to bloody pulp with anything from hockey sticks, chains, scaffolding and even a mighty pen. During one 'good-deed' demo, he's hit by a brainwave - a thought that can change the world! His funda seems profound but is simple. Goodness is redeemable. If someone shows you a random act of kindness, you pay it forward to three people. And they'll pass on the 'act of kindness' to three more each. A multip

Hasee Toh Phasee - Review

Image
Cast: Sidharth Malhotra, Parineeti Chopra, Adah Sharma, Manoj Joshi Direction: Vinil Mathew Genre: Romantic Comedy Duration: 2 hours 21 minutes Hasee Toh Phasee  is for the romantics who like their martinis stirred not shaken. Debutant director Vinil Mathew's straight-forward approach is smart and fresh; his characters are lovable. Nikhil(Sidharth Malhotra) is an optimist, who believes once committed, there's no straying. Meeta( Parineeti Chopra) is a non-conformist; she's a go-getter in her personal and professional space. Naturally Nikhil and Meeta's ideologies don't match. But there's an under-current in their equation that keeps the audience hoping they that they will seek each other out. Ok, so why aren't these two together in the first place? Is it only because they are poles apart as people? No, it's because Nikhil is engaged to be married to Meeta's elder sister Karishma. And, Meeta herself has been missing from the family scene for seven lon

Accelerated by Bronwen Hruska

Title: Accelerated Author: Bronwen Hruska Publisher: Pegasus ISBN: 978-1605983790 Genre: Literary Fiction Pages: 288 A lot is expected from children these days. Actually, let me change that: Everything is expected from children these days. Even advertising for them is centered on faster, stronger, brighter, and smarter. That is the pre-requisite it seems of having a child and amidst all this I have often wondered how schools have changed. From what they used to be to what they have become. I often think children are not what they used to be – there are a lot of areas to cater to – studies, sports, and the extra-curricular and amidst all this, I wonder what parents and children go through. “Accelerated” by Bronwen Hruska is a book that deals with the issues mentioned above. The setting is an affluent New York neighbourhood that sports one of the best schools in the city – Bradley School. Everything at the school is accelerated – third graders are learning what sixth graders are meant to

Film : The American Hustle

Release Date : 17th January, 2014 Time : 138 minutes Director, Co-Writer : David O Russell; Co-Writer : Eric Singer; Music : Danny Elfman Starring : Christian Bale, Amy Adams, Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Jeremy Renner, Michael Pena, Louis CK, Alessandro Nivalo, Elisabeth Rohm It was nice to see people in different roles than what we are used to. And the story wasn’t bad too, though, honestly speaking I was quite distracted by the amazing cleavage on constant display by Amy Adams (and by Jennifer Lawrence when she was on screen). Con artist, Bale, and his partner, Amy, enjoy playing in the small leagues. Going after desperate men, promising them a loan, using Amy’s non-existent royal English banking connections. Until they are trapped by the Feds. Forced to work for them. And play in leagues where people get hurt. Bradley is really good as a hyperactive FBI officer, looking to clean up the country, Louis CK is even better as his long suffering boss. Jeremy Renner plays the well m
