Sholay (3D) - Still a super Watch with or without 3D
What Does one say about Sholay that hasn't been said before? The "greatest story ever told" that flopped on the first two days of release, but went on to rewrite the rules of the box office game and has now become a watershed in Bollywood History, has often been described as the "most Complete film" watched and re-watched in generation after generation. a tale of friendship and love, revenge and retribution. Sholay has now added another dimension--- the third, affording views of the generation of opportunity to relieve the magic that mesmerised movie lover 38 years ago
through the narrative and visual richness of sholay never really needed to piggyback on 3D, the release of the multi-starrer in theatre is one hell of the nostalgia trip, as was evicted from the deafening cat-calls wolf whistles that greeted iconic dialogues and every memorable character at the first day first show. While all 207 minutes of sholay is worth a re-watch, here are the sequences that wowed in 3D----
The train sequences in the beginning when Thakur Baldev Singh (Sanjeev Kapoor) is ferrying petty thieves Jai (Amitabh Bachchan) and Veeru (Dharmendra) and come under attack from a band of dacoits. The adrenaline-pumping action sequence of the three over powering the dacoits is the threat to watch in 3D, especially when the train crash into a pile of logs that comes hurtling towards us. We loved: When Thakur Fires at Jai and Veeru's handcuffs to free them, the bullet just narrowly "misses" our nose!
The rocky Topography of Ramgarh with its Wild West Look and feel gets a boost in 3D. Gabbar Singh"s (Amjad Khan) introduction Scene where he menacingly flails his bullet and strides on a pile of boulders still gives us goosebumps. In 3D, The Scene---Kitne Aadmi thhe? to Poore pachaas hazaar----- packs in a lot of more punch.
The familiar coin toss sequel between Jai and Veeru that decide the course of their lives---and a death---gets a heads-up in 3D.
The scene right after the Holi celebration when the Ramgarh comes under attack as Jai and Veeru over powers the Dacoits, Debris from the blast comes hurtling towards us.
Towards the end, as a dying Jai single-handedly fights the Gabbar's Gang the stick of dynamite on the bridge even more sinister in 3D
The final scene when the Thakur's spike-fitted sandals just stop shot of landing on Gabbar's Blooded face, even as the cops arrived to arrest him.
Sholay is still perhaps the only film that can get you to a hall bright and early to a 9 am show on a cold winter morning. The 3D may be incidental, but the film remains a cinematics gem. Or "Dada of all Movies"as Salman Khan Tweeted on Friday morning.
