Top 10 Most Expensive Luxury Car Crashes !!
If you’ve ever been in a car accident where you were the one at fault, you know exactly how expensive it can be. Even with insurance, you still have to pay a deductible on repairs and your insurance premiums will go up. Worse yet, if you’ve totaled your car, it will likely be a write off— and your best option will be to bargain with your grandma for her oldsmobile cutlass supreme.
We have found the 10 most expensive luxury cars that have ever crashed and burned. There’s a good chance that the owners of these cars had the money to replace them, but it doesn’t mean that it didn’t sting to lose a ride that sweet. You might even shed a tear for them, especially when you find out that some of these exotic cars cost up to seven figures.
Here are the 10 most expensive luxury car crashes ever recorded.
10 – Millionaire Picks Up Speed, Loses Control of Jaguar XJ220 ($1 Million)
How fast do you think your car can go? About 100 miles per hour? 150 miles per hour tops? The Jaguar XJ220 is one of the fastest cars to have ever been produced and can travel at a speed of nearly 220 miles per hour. With a price tag at $1 million, only the richest thrill seekers can get their hands on one of these cats.
If someone has the kind of money to spend seven figures on a car, they are probably willing to risk going at full speed. The full report of this accident wasn’t given, but we can only guess that the owner was guilty of speeding. When the car crashed, the front end got completely knocked in and the repairs cost just as much as the car.
9 – 27 Year Old Hits Guardrail With 2015 McLaren P1 ($1.1 Million)
If you are over the age of 27, think about how much money you didn’t have at that age. If you can afford a $1.1 million car at just 27 years old, you are probably either a trust fund baby or some wunderkind in the stock market business.
An unnamed millionaire in Texas was the owner of this brand spanking new McLaren and drove it straight into a guard rail. The damages couldn’t be repaired and the car was totaled. Let’s hope that he purchased the insurance to go along with the car.
8 – Rowan “Mr. Bean” Atkinson Wrecks His McLaren F1 ($1.25 Million)
You might never guess who is responsible for the most expensive repair costs in the history of the United Kingdom. Instead of getting his totaled McLaren F1 replaced, the owner opted to have the parts shipped in to restore it to its former glory. He did this because the F1 is a top of the line luxury car and something his insurance company just couldn’t replace with a Subaru.
The owner is none other than Rowan Atkinson. To those that haven’t seen him outside of his franchise films, you may know Atkinson better as Mr. Bean. Atkinson’s movies haven’t been a huge hit in the United States, but the Brits have spent enough on movie tickets to the point where he was able to afford his F1 twice. Once for the original and again for the repair costs.
7 – More Than A Dozen People Have Crashed A Ferrari Enzo ($1.3 Million)
The Ferrari Enzo seems like a pretty sweet car, but you may want to reconsider dropping $1.3 million on just one of them. That kind of money could get you about 71 Honda Civics, enough to open up your own fleet of dependable uber taxis.
If you don’t think that’s cool way to spend $1.3 million and you’d rather just have the one Ferrari Enzo, then you might want to know this fact: there have been 14 accidents
reported with the Enzo. With only 400 of these luxury cars ever produced by Ferrari,
that’s one accident per every 28.57 of them. So there’s a 3.5 percent chance that you could wreck one of these bad boys. That’s a considerably high chance when you think about it.
6 – Owner Crashes One Of The 300 Bugatti Veyron Cars ($1.6 Million)
Bugatti is known for having high end cars with models that don’t go into mass production. These aren’t grocery getters, but instead they are very high speed machines seen as toys by the filthy rich. Bugatti only produced 300 versions of the Veyron.
With a price tag at $1.6 million, the Veyron is believed to be the most expensive car to ever be put in production (even if on a limited basis). When one of the owners crashed the car, there weren’t many replacement parts available and the cost ended up being the same as just buying another Veyron. But, hey, if you have $1.6 million to buy one Veyron, you probably have another $1.6 million to spare.
5 – Eccentric Millionaire Hits Wall In Race With 1959 Ferrari 250 GT TDF ($1.65 Million)
Rich people love to race their cars, but they usually draw the line at about $200,000 when it comes to which cars they will race. One owner of the rare 1959 Ferrari 250 decided it would be a great idea to enter it into the Shell Ferrari-Maserati Historic Challenge. It ended up being a really dumb move.
The driver lost control of the car and ended up going head first into a wall. It was considered to be a miracle that he survived because the safety standards weren’t quite as high in 1959 as they are now. These cars are obviously not in production anymore, so the repair costs were astronomical. It had to have been one of the coolest looking car crashes of all time, though.
4 – Garage Messes Up While Repairing 1971 Lamborghini Miura SV ($1.7 Million)
H.R. Owen Dealerships was one of the best garages known in the United Kingdom. However, they probably didn’t get too many Lamborghini Miura SV’s in their garage before they got the chance to tune this one up. The owner was unnamed, but it is known that he is a billionaire who liked to dabble in classic cars.
At one point, this 1971 beauty was in pristine condition, but just needed a little maintenance work done. After visiting the H.R. Owen Dealership, the Lamborghini caught fire nearby. While the owner was not at fault for what happened, you can imagine that he’d sue the garage for everything they’re worth after mismanaging his rare and expensive collector’s car. That shiny yellow paint job must have been too distracting to the mechanic.
3 – Prius Starts Sports Car Pileup On China Road In Yamaguchi, Japan ($4 Million)
What type of car do you think is driven by the worst drivers on Earth? Chances are, you are thinking of a hybrid vehicle— and you are be absolutely right. In Yamaguchi, Japan, a Prius (of all cars) started a chain reaction of crashes. Doesn’t seem like too big of a deal when there were just half dozen cars involved, but the other cars were a bit more expensive than the Prius.
Also involved in the wreck were a Ferrari, a Modena, a Testarossa and a Lamborghini. If the Prius was truly found to be at fault in this accident, the driver better hope that his insurance covers it. Even if they do cover the accident, you can bet that the premiums will never be the same again, or he might just get dropped altogether.
2 – Hurricane Wipes Out Ferrari 250 GT Spyder ($10 Million)
When you have a car that is worth $10 million, where do you think you would store it? Probably in your own personal garage next to your other cars that are worth massive amounts of money, right? Well, not the owner of this Ferrari 250 GT Spyder. Instead, he opted to keep it on the beach, which happened to be a terrible idea.
Shortly after keeping his car on the beach (presumably for people to look at and feel bad about themselves), Mother Nature roared her ugly head. A hurricane came quickly off the coast and the Ferrari was one of the first victims. Since the car was completely filled with sand, there was no other option but to write it off.
1 – Unattentive Millionaire Rearends Car With A Ferrari 250 GTO ($28.5 Million)
When you’re driving your $10,000 car down the road, you’re probably going to make sure that you are aware of all of your surroundings. You don’t want to hit anyone in front of you or to the side of you. Now imagine if you are driving a $28.5 million car, then you might not even want to leave the driveway out of fear of crashing it.
The owner of this car was pretty confident in his driving abilities and decided to coast along without paying too much attention to what was around him— that was until he rear ended another vehicle. The driver of that vehicle probably saw dollar signs. As soon as they looked into the rear view mirror and saw the GTO, we can only assume the first words out of their mouth were “Ow, my neck!”
So now you have seen what the most expensive car crashes look like, stay safe out there no matter how much your car is worth, folks.
